Each year, United Methodist Church and the United Women in Faith members prepare for faithful living and action by participating in a mission study. A Mission u spiritual growth study is offered each year at 3 levels: adult, youth and children. These studies motivate, inform, and enrich our commitment to global ministry. |

United Women in Faith
Our Purpose The organized unit of United Women in Faith shall be a community of women whose PURPOSE is to know God and to experience freedom as whole persons through Jesus Christ; to develop a creative, supportive fellowship; and to expand concepts of mission through participation in the global ministries of the church.
Fisk is blessed to have an active unit of United Women in Faith. They meet monthly for a short business meeting and program. There are 3 circles of women who meet in addition to the monthly unit meeting for fellowship and focused mission projects. We are an active group, focused on Missions and we invite all women to come to a unit meeting and meet us all.
Membership in United Women in Faith Membership is open to any woman who indicates her desire to belong and to participate in the global mission of the church through United Methodist Women. As a member each woman joins forces with other women to embrace and work on the four mission emphases reflected in the PURPOSE. Though every church is to have a unit of United Women in Faith, membership in the United Methodist Church does not automatically make a woman a member. Women actively choose to become involved in the organization's mission and support the PURPOSE. Come and visit any meeting of our unit. All women are welcome.
The official emblem for United Methodist Women as well as for The United Methodist Church combines the cross and a flame. The cross and flame are ancient symbols of Christ and Pentecost. The shape of the emblem is fluid and free flowing, suggesting change and mobility." ...I now remind you to stir into flame the gift of God which is within you." (II Timothy 1:6a NEB). Our heritage is one of sacrifice, witness, and service. The emblem serves as a continuing reminder of both opportunity and obligation.

Mission Giving
The name for United Methodist Women's basic financial giving Mission Giving and it let's us tell the story of the United Women in Faith's vision outreach. The name indicates what UMW is about -mission- and what makes that possible - giving. Mission giving is the foundation for mission work through United Methodist Women and the Women's Division.
Our unit of United Women in Faith has many ways to reach our Mission Giving goal.
Our individual “pledge to mission” which is paid through your circle treasurer or the unit treasurer—Sherry Culver. This is the amount you would like to give---or pledge---to mission for each calendar year.
We also hold two Yard Sales each year---May and October. Continue to save your “yard sale items” and plan to help out on those days.
Our Annual Holiday Fair in November is another event to have fellowship and raise funds for our unit’s Pledge to Mission.
This giving plan is how our National organization can do the wonderful mission work throughout the world…
helping women, children and youth.

Reading Program
Read Response - the magazine of United Women in Faith .
Reading Program: The purpose of the Reading Program is to encourage United Women in Faith:
1. to expand understanding of and participation in God's mission;
2. to increase sensitivity to all human beings-their needs, interests, and concerns;
3. to encourage critical thinking about issues facing humanity today;
4. to grow in understanding of Scripture as it relates to Christian faith in contemporary life;
5. to enhance self-knowledge and to act from that knowledge;
6. to strengthen involvement in local and global Christian mission.
The UWF Reading Program recommends a diverse range of books with the intention of broadening exposure to a variety of concepts. The Division does not intend that United Methodist Women accept each word or idea contained within each volume. Some books you may agree with. Some you may not. Either is all right. At least you know the Women's Division cares and wants you to be a knowledgeable and caring Christian about the issues of the day.
The books are divided into five categories: Spiritual Growth, Social Action, Nurturing for Community, Education for Mission and Leadership.
Each year, relevant books to support and inform our purpose are selected and made available through the UWF Mission Resource Center e-store and can also be purchased at other bookstores – both walking into one and many online.
This year, participants have the opportunity to read any book for 2018 through 2023 and there are six ways that you can participate in the Reading Program! It offers an excellent opportunity to deepen your spirituality and to broaden your understanding of our mission work.
For over 150 years, United Women in Faith have been involved in mission that includes prayer, study and action. The UWF Reading Program is a study opportunity, but it also can lead to action! You never know what God may ask you to do! Children and youth can participate with your assistance!
A listing of the books is available by the book shelf in Ogle Parlor. Book discussion meetings will be held throughout the year.
For more information on the Reading Program, please contact Amy Bruns, Fisk UWF Resource Coordinator.

Join our Prayer Shawl Ministry
Prayer Shawls have been in use for centuries. The idea of current day prayer shawls began with the first class of Women’s Leadership Insititute at Hartford Seminary in 1988. What started as a grass roots movement has quickly grown into an international cause, with countless numbers of prayer shawls given to grateful people around the world.
Shawls are given to celebrate the joys in life, special occasions, as well as bring comfort and care to those in need.
As we knit or crochet and pray for the recipient, we pray healing, light, hope, and peace into the shawl.
Whatever your hand finds to do, do with your might. Ecclesiastes 9:10

This is a time of fellowship ... A time of nurturing ... A time to care
What are you doing Wednesday mornings? Come join us at 10:00 AM in Ogle Parlor to knit, crochet or quilt these very special shawls while praying for comfort, healing or maybe a time of celebration for the recipients. Just come to visit.
So…if you think you might be interested in this ministry, speak to Janis Cail. We hope this will continue to be an ongoing ministry of the Fisk community.
